LONGING FOR BALANCE

 

Balance brings calm, comfort, creativity, being present, health, sound decision-making, confidence, and spiritual connection.

SELF-ESTEEM. BELONGING. WORTHINESS.

Lots of people share with me about how out-of-balance their lives are. The stories vary, however their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are similar. Most people are hard on themselves because they haven’t figured IT out yet – how to find balance.

Already professional and successful, they still hustle to be stress-free, strong, and svelte, while simultaneously trying to be the perfect parent, partner, boss, employee, and friend. They feel like imposters, if not victims of circumstance.

These folks live to work. They work in spite of health scares and loss of friendships. Make excuses for their lack of self-care and exercise. Blame others for their circumstances. Live under stress with intensity and without levity. Attempt to parent perfectly and failing miserably. They can’t seem to complete a project on time without skipping meals, holidays, and doctor appointments. Nothing they do is ever good enough.

REALITY CHECK

I don’t know a single human being who’s never been out of balance.

NOT ONE.

The most common longing for balance is around work/life balance. This can provide access to more energy, creativity, and capacity to develop your best life. You want this, right?

START BY OWNING YOUR DISCOMFORT. CONNECT WITH YOUR DESIRE TO FEEL BETTER – TO HAVE MORE OF SOMETHING AND LESS OF SOMETHING ELSE.

Believe it when you say, “Something’s got to give.” Then answer these questions:

  • What are you no longer willing to put up with?
  • What are you willing to stop right now – or start – that will create time and energy?

I’ve been where you are. Overscheduled, overworked, overloaded, overwhelmed. Angry, resentful, unhappy, and victimized by the imbalance between work and personal life. I had no life.

Without balance, life is hard, and takes effort just to get mediocre results. There’s got to be more!

DON’T LINGER IN THE HO-HUM STATUS QUO WITHOUT THE ENERGY AND CREATIVITY TO REDIRECT YOURSELF.

Getting a jump on the workday is often code for skipping the workout, sidestepping someone, shirking personal chores, or avoiding feelings.

Good news! Even the smallest shift that creates a little opening will bring you relief. You’ll think of something you want or want to do. Then I challenge you to sit still long enough to notice the choices that are revealed.

Will you choose to move toward what you want, or will you turn away from it to play it safe in the status quo?

I will not suggest you be irresponsible in any way. I will encourage clear communication and boundaries that you want to claim and maintain.

Balance is about having the right amount of everything. Balance is essential to finding your path to authenticity and your best life. It’s available when you choose it.
