FACING THE FORK IN THE ROAD WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE
I was 36 years old and divorced - and doing my best to face an unplanned fork in my road.
Hellbent on taking care of myself (in that I-don't-need-anyone kind of reactive way), I continued growing in my recovery and healing to move beyond hurt, shame and anger. And, I felt the need to grow professionally by taking on more responsibility so I could be a better leader and earn more. Even though I trusted my business decisions, I believed I had to have an MBA to be credible to others.
I didn't believe I was good enough - and hoped that getting an MBA would prove me wrong.
Wanting a higher education and being driven to succeed were good things. Sad story of childhood dysfunction and divorce aside... I was excited - thrilled, actually - to be motivated to rise in my career... To contribute to greater reach, deeper impact and more women healing and thriving.
Working fulltime in a nonprofit organization I loved and had dedicated myself to - I wanted to impact our mission in a greater way. I was desperate and determined to get an executive master's in business administration (EMBA).
I was accepted at my dream school contingent on successful completion of four undergraduate business courses. While it took hard work to make grades in Statistics and Accounting, I completely soared in Professional Development (that 100% of my classmates hated).
When I submitted the final project: My Personal Vision, passion and purpose lit up my fork in the road, and the choice was clear.
The initial evidence of my 1999 vision was, rather than getting an EMBA, getting my Master's in Social Work, emphasis in organization development. My vision was launched! (Let me know if you'd like to see it published on my blog sometime...)
I've always done my best to bring mental and emotional health to people, families and organizations.
It's amazing to me that I wrote my vision 24+ years ago. Today, I'm living it... Helping women like you grow, heal and make choices that will fulfill your personal vision.
