9 STEPS TO CLEAR THE CLOUDS AND WELCOME SPRING
Welcome to the season of fresh blooms and new beginnings. You’re launching something new or planning something important. As the days grow longer and the sun shines brighter, you’re engaging in something for the first time. With a spring in your step, you’re ready for your hopes, desires, and dreams to blossom!
WHAT IF YOU’RE NOT QUITE READY?
You’re afraid to hope, start a project, or make future plans – and anxious to step out of your comfort zone. Something pulls you back to status quo. If you’re one of the many folks not yet feeling the whole “Spring is in the air” thing, consider taking these 9 Steps to Clear the Clouds and Welcome Spring. I want you to find the sunbeams meant for you! With your private journal and favorite pen, settle into a quiet and comfortable spot…
ONE Be still and notice your thoughts as you consider launching, planning, and new beginnings.
TWO When your inner critic starts in, write down the five loudest and meanest things she’s telling you right now. Capture the words in your journal and melt that shame she so generously offers.
THREE Turn the page and write your inner critic a thank you note. Here’s an example: Dear Shamer Santini (my critic’s name), I no longer need you to keep me safe and small by talking me out of new experiences, holding me back, and keeping me stuck. I am capable of taking care of myself – and hopeful and excited to move forward in my life. Please take a nap. I got us; I got this. Love, Laura
FOUR It’s time to hear from the part of you that’s been staying small, safe, and stuck. Write out these answers, confident that your private journal is for your eyes only.
- Are you where, how, and who you want to be? Doing what you want to do?
- Sharing your life with your first-choice people? Is something or someone missing?
- Have you achieved your goals or given up on a dream?
- Have you put your hopes, dreams, and desires on hold while raising a family, building your career, or taking care of aging parents?
- Is there another reason you’ve stayed small and safe?
FIVE Spend 10 minutes noticing how your body feels – tense, tight, hot, queasy, heavy, or anything else. However your body feels is fine. You’re okay.
THIS IS A BEGINNING DIVE INTO SELF-EXPLORATION. WHILE NOT EASY, THIS PROCESS IS ESSENTIAL TO UNLOCKING YOU AND YOUR DREAMS.
SIX Walk around for a few minutes, pour some hot tea or coffee, resituate in your zone of quiet exploration, and breathe in and out while affirming YOURSELF for risking discomfort to heal YOU.
SEVEN Turn to a fresh page in your journal and finish these sentences with the first thing that pops up – be spontaneous, not practical:
- If I had the money, I would…
- If I could make anything, I would…
- If I could change one thing about myself, it would be…
- If I were creative enough, I would…
- If I had more time, I would…
- If I wouldn’t hurt anyone’s feelings, I would…
If you’re like most women who have written these exercises, you’ve journeyed from ugh to okay! in a fairly brief time. You’re exploring your blocks. Yay, you!
YOUR BODY IS RELAXING, YOUR THOUGHTS ARE MORE POSITIVE, AND HOPE IS RISING. YOUR DREAMS AND DESIRES ARE WEAVING A BEAUTIFUL TAPESTRY. YOUR PATH IS LIGHTING UP.
EIGHT If you sense doubt or fear returning… just know that it’s your inner critic again – telling you why you can’t do this or afford that. Warning you that he’ll be mad, or she’ll be hurt. Flip back the pages in your journal and re-read your letter to her out loud.
NINE Stand tall, smile, and pat yourself on the back! You risked discomfort and took important time for you. Now you’re ready to welcome Spring. You might even be excited to do something special!
I’LL HELP YOU FIND THE PATH TO YOUR JUST-RIGHT LIFE. A LIFE WITH PURPOSE AND PASSION. THE ONE IN YOUR DREAMS.
YOU’LL BRING YOUR WILLINGNESS TO HEAL, GROW, AND MAKE CHOICES.
