13 MANTRAS THAT BROUGHT ME BACK FROM THE DARK

True story.

I woke up this morning, did my Monday morning chores and started thinking about lunch. Oh no, you didn’t grocery shop yesterday. You know better than that. No, stop talking to me like that, thank you very much.

In my morning Coffee + Contemplation time, I sat by the fire and wrote in my journal:

“Dear God, I’m ready for my extra 4 pounds to come off. After working out at the club, I’m grocery shopping for salads – and starting to drink [hot] tea... I'm so grateful.”

I wrote a bit more about how grateful I am to have the life and love I have and just how amazing it all is to experience. And then I kissed Jack the cat and headed off to the gym.

Set yourself up for success today, Laura. Yep! I’m grocery shopping right after my workout. In fact, I’ll be close to the really good market when I leave the club. Got it. Set yourself up for success today!

As I am leaving the club, it’s colder than I thought outside… kind of raining and it’s a wet cold.

I’ll just order lunch delivery. I better get home and get to work. Oh wait, I’m setting myself up for success today. I so got this. I am worthy and deserve to be happy and feel good.

My car took a left instead of turning right to head home. I stocked up on fresh produce, even bought some fish to cook in my new air fryer… if you know me, you’re predicting that I’ll toss the fish in a few days… I’m not so sure about that… here’s why:

Words are super powerful. Words matter – in the same way that what I eat matters.

If I keep thinking and saying to myself I don’t eat fish, I don’t like fish, I can’t cook fish… You’ll be right. However, I also think/say to myself I really want to eat (more) fish.

Words and food – along with plenty of sleep, water and exercise – are fundamental to my self-care and instrumental to my personal and professional success.

I offer 13 mantras that brought me back from a dark depression, horrible shame, overwhelming anxiety and self-sabotage. These words are powerful and said as mantras are still incredibly helpful in the most wonderful ways!

  1. You're as sick as your secrets.
  2. Dear God...
  3. I’m so grateful.
  4. You got this.
  5. Breathe.
  6. Call Lannie.
  7. I am worthy, lovable and deserve to be happy.
  8. I have a God-given gift to share and love what I do!
  9. Enjoy the fellowship.
  10. Words matter.
  11. Don't leave (or quit) five minutes before the miracle happens.
  12. Nothing changes if nothing changes.
  13. Set yourself up for success, Laura.

Please feel free to adopt and adapt these mantras for YOUR emotional, mental, physical, relational, spiritual and financial health.

I'm wishing you every good thought and only kind things to say to yourself. You are worthy. You got this.
